HOW FREE IS THE PRESS SUMMARY
“How Free Is the
Press” is written by Dorothy L.sayers. He was born in 1893 in England. She was
one of the first women to graduate from Oxford University. In this chapter she
expressed her strong idea against misuse of press.
She says that the press should be free to write about the fact but at the same
time it should also be handled very carefully. At the time of war the press
shout not be free but after the war again it should be free. She explains the
freedom of outer source press should publish the fact related to the
government, politics and society. She says sometimes this freedom is very
harmful, people related to press start getting benefit for personal reason. She
says the press is not as free as it should be. Actually the press is chiefly controlled
by two factors. First is interest of the advertisers and second the wealth of
the press owner. Press never tries to write against advertisers because
advertisers give him business. And also when the owner is very rich, there is
good control on the press of the owner so that time owner changed the fact to
support the victim. She also says that the good journalist always write the
fact and never try to cheat common people.
